These displays are best used for timely, relevant information such as campus events, important announcements, learning opportunities, and services available to the campus community.

57 Freeway Digital Signage

Digital freeway signCal State Fullerton manages the digital freeway sign located between the Eastside Parking Structure and the Marriott Hotel. Campus units may request to display content on the sign, following guidelines listed below and the university’s agreement with Clear Channel, the sign’s operator.

Content Eligibility:

To be approved, content must meet the following requirements:

  • Content must be relevant and accessible to the general public. Events, programs, or activities must be available to the general public and cannot be limited to CSUF students, faculty, or staff only.
  • Profanity, vulgarity, or sensitive material is not permitted.
  • Motion graphics and video are not allowed under Caltrans regulations.
  • Advertising, endorsements, or promotion of non-CSUF organizations, products, or services is not permitted.

 

Sponsorship Recognition:

Sponsorship acknowledgment is acceptable under the following criteria:

  • Sponsorship must meet the minimum required contribution of $25,000 during any single 12-month period.
  • Sponsoring organizations and creatives must be approved by Clear Channel.
    Consult with Strategic Communications before offering freeway sign placement as part of a sponsorship agreement.
  • Content may acknowledge or thank a sponsor, but may not promote or advertise the organization, its products, or services.
    Example: “Proud Sponsor of [name of program] at Cal State Fullerton”
  • Sponsor logos may be included, but product images or promotional messaging are not allowed.

 

Design Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 522 × 342 pixels
  • File format: JPG or PNG
  • Adequate color contrast to ensure text legibility

 

Design Guidelines:

  • Keep content and design simple and easy to read. Drivers have only a few seconds to view the message.
    Tips:
    • Keep messaging short and easy to read. Aim for 6–8 words per message, as recommended by the Department of Transportation.
    • Focus on one clear idea or call to action.
    • Avoid full sentences when possible. Use concise phrases instead.
      Recommended: “Open House June 10”
      Avoid: “Join us for our upcoming open house event June 10, 2027 at CSUF”
  • For events, include key details such as date, time, and location.
  • Include a short URL when additional information is needed.
  • Use official CSUF colors and visual elements to ensure the message is recognized as coming from the university.
